NEW DELHI:  The Delhi High Court on Wednesday allowed Congress leader and former Union minister P Chidambaram to place some additional documents on record in his pending anticipatory bail plea in the INX Media case.Chidambaram has sought to place on record the printouts of news articles, which state that the Law Ministry has told the Centre that Central Bureau of Investigation can be granted sanction to prosecute him in the case.

“On February 3, it has been widely reported in the media that the Law Ministry has informed the central government that sanction can be granted to the CBI to prosecute the petitioner (Chidambaram) in the instant case. “It appears that the opinion of the Law Ministry was sought on the request for grant of sanction made by the CBI against the petitioner,” the former finance minister’s plea said.

Justice Sunil Gaur allowed the application, saying the additional documents are taken on record.
On January 25, the High Court reserved order on Chidambaram’s bail plea in the INX Media case being probed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).The two federal agencies had opposed Chidambaram’s bail plea, saying that his custodial interrogation was necessary as he was evasive and had given false information during his questioning.

Chidambaram, meanwhile, is on interim protection from arrest granted by the Delhi High Court.
The Congress leader’s role had come under the scanner of investigating agencies during their probe into the `3,500-crore Aircel-Maxis deal and the INX Media case involving `305 crore. It was during Chidambaram’s tenure as the finance minister in the Congress-led  UPA-I rule that clearances from the Foreign Investment Promotion Board were given to the two ventures. With Agency inputs
