NEW DELHI:  A Delhi court on Monday allowed Robert Vadra, accused in a money laundering case, to travel abroad for six weeks. Special Judge Arvind Kumar allowed him to travel to the USA and the Netherlands for six weeks and asked him to submit his travel schedule to it. However, the court did not allow Vadra, brother-in-law of Congress president Rahul Gandhi, to go to London.

While granting the permission to Vadra, the apex court said in case any lookout circular is issued against him, it will remain suspended for six weeks. Vadra was granted anticipatory bail in the case on April 1 but he was ordered not to fly out of the country without prior permission. The court also asked Vadra not to tamper with any evidence and influence any witness in the case.

During the arguments, Vadra’s counsel KTS Tulsi told the court that Vadra will not go to London, as per his earlier prayer, if the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had an objection. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appearing for the ED had opposed Vadra’s plea in which he had sought permission to travel to the UK and other countries citing health reasons.

Vadra had told the court that as per Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, he has a “small tumour in the large intestine for the further management of which he can take a second opinion in London if he wishes so”.Vadra is facing allegations of money laundering in the purchase of a property in London at 12, Bryanston Square, worth 1.9 million pounds.
