The story of missing Marathi actress, Alka Punewar, who was traced to Chennai, seems to have come straight off a film script.

According to Chennai Police the actress, 44, staged her ‘accident’ in order to leave her husband and son to be with her boyfriend.

Punewar had left her residence in Thane on December 27 for a stage show at Uran in Navi Mumbai. However, she did not turn up and her family went into a tizzy when an unidentified caller enquired about her return.

Her husband feared for the worst when Raigad Police found her car in a 700 ft deep gorge at Khopoli. The mishap was all the more mysterious since there was no sign of the occupants or traces of blood inside the vehicle.

Even as her family was frantically searching for her, Punewar was spending time with her boyfriend Alok Paliwal, 24, in Chennai.

Later it emerged that the love-struck couple along with Sanjay Sonkar had hatched the conspiracy, which led to the car being pushed into the ravine.

Actually, the Mumbai Police crime branch, which obtained the call data records of Punewar, found that on the day of the accident, several calls were made to Sonkar’s mobile. Ironically, Punewar made her husband buy the second hand car through an online site for `25,000.

She had posed as Nikita Mishra before the parents of her young boyfriend and also made up a tale that she had lost her parents in an accident in which she had badly injured her face. She was keen to look good again at the hands of Paliwal’s father, who is a plastic surgeon.

Police suspect that the reason why Punewar did not divorce her husband was probably because she was planning to return home after getting a free facelift from her boyfriend’s father.
