Bhutan king to be chief guest at Republic Day

Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck will be the chief guest at India's Republic Day celebrations Jan 26, an official statement said Tuesday.

The Bhutan king and his wife, Ashi Jetsun Pema, are paying a state visit to India Jan 23-30.

"His majesty the king of Bhutan has been invited by the president of India to be the chief guest for the Republic Day celebrations of 2013," the statement said.

Wangchuck will meet President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi, besides other dignitaries.
