BJP’s Delhi chief ministerial candidate Harsh Vardhan speaks about their decision to not support Aam Aadmi Party with The New Indian Express Editorial Director Prabhu Chawla

during Teekhi Baat on IBN7. Excerpts:

You remained a claimant to the post. You said that you will form the government but all that talk dispersed into thin air.

When one contests elections, one should be confident of victory. We too had confidence. We too worked but nobody had though that AAP would get such public support. We are the biggest party in Delhi, and the Congress has been rejected by the people of Delhi.

If you wanted to form the government, why didn’t you accept the challenge when the LG called you? Why didn’t you form the government?

We do not want to do politics of ‘jod tod’(mathematics), but we didn’t have the 36 MLAs required to form the government. Hence, as soon as results were out, we took a decision to not form the government. If we would have formed the government we would have had to do ‘jod tod’. Kejriwal had sworn on his children that he would not accept or extend support to Congress or BJP but even then they formed the government. They have given power in the hands of Congress through the backdoor. This is a coalition of Congress and AAP.

If AAP fulfils its promises and initiates investigation against Congress, Congress will withdraw support. What will you do in that case? Will BJP save the government?

They don’t need our support to run their own government. Investigations should be held against everybody. Even we are fighting against corruption since a long time. He has maintained since the first day that we are not needed. They have formed the government. They formed the party, even though Anna said that party should not be formed, and moreover, they allied with Congress afterwards. Now they have shaken hands with Congress.

When they start an investigation against the Congress, will your party support it or no.

They joined hands with corruption to form government, the people who talk that Kashmir should be independent, people who go to meet terrorists in Bareli, who raise questions over Mohan Chand Sharma sacrificing his life in the line of duty, how can we trust such people and support them? We don’t have responsibility to saving such a government.

Would you be able to fulfil your promises?

They should fulfil promises made to the people of Delhi. Our best wishes are with them. But they have started saying that they don’t have any magic wand. Before polls they had a wand, but now their magic wand has got lost.
