Raipur, Dec 4 (PTI) An elderly man was today killedwhen a pressure improvised explosive device (IED), suspectedto have been planted by Naxals, went off in a village in Sukmadistrict of Chhattisgarh, police said.

The incident took place this evening when the victim,Karko Kanna, had gone to an agriculture field for farm-relatedwork in Kansaram village under Kistaram police station limits,Sukma Superintendent of Police Abhishek Meena told PTI.

As per preliminary information, the 70-year-oldinadvertently stepped on the pressure IED while passingthrough the field on the outskirts of the village, around 500km away from the capital, he said.

The home-made bomb went off, killing the villager onthe spot, the police officer said.

On November 28, another villager Dudhi Hidma (50),hailing from the neighbouring Amapenta village, was killed ina pressure IED blast in a field near Kansaram, the SP said.

Such devices are generally planted by Maoists totarget security forces who often pass through agriculturefields and dirt tracks during patrolling, the SP said.
