New Delhi, Dec 4 (PTI) Paytm founder and CEO VijayShekhar Sharma has been named the UN Environment's 'Patronfor Clean Air', the company said today.

He will help drive greater environmental action andawareness, and advocate for the goals of UN Environment'sglobal BreatheLife campaign, Paytm said in a statement.

The campaign will work on promoting policy and citizenaction for better air quality for people.

"I am honoured to be appointed UN Environment Patron ofClean Air. We can't achieve economic well-being withoutensuring the well-being of the environment," Sharma said.

The private sector is key to ensuring cleaner air and amore sustainable future for all, he added.

According to the World Health Organisation, half of the20 most-polluted cities in the world (levels of PM2.5, a fineparticulate matter) are in India, including Delhi.

With his appointment, Sharma joins Patron of the OceansLewis Pugh (British swimmer) and Wilderness Patron Ben Fogle(Broadcaster) in the prestigious list.

"Tackling pollution requires all of us, citizens,governance and business to come together. We need morechampions in the private sector like Mr Sharma to driveinnovation that will get us to a cleaner future," said ErikSolheim, head of UN Environment. PTI SRSA.
