needs of Armed ForcesVisakhapatnam, Dec 7 (PTI) The Centre for DefenceStudies, declared open by President Ram Nath Kovind at theAndhra University (AU) here today, is the first-of-its-kind inany Indian University that will cater exclusively to theeducation and research requirements of the defence sector.

The Ministry of Defence is providing a grant of Rs60 crore for setting up this centre, according to AndhraUniversity Vice-Chancellor G Nageswara Rao.

The AU had been running various courses for theArmy, Air Force and Navy, and this Centre would bring them allunder one roof.

"I understand that the Centre for Defence Studieswill focus on cyber security, nanotechnology, radar andcommunications, corrosion technology, and other technologiesthat have strategic dimensions," the President said on theoccasion.

"Professors and researchers from this University arecollaborating on specific projects with DRDO as well as withthe Naval Research Board and other institutions.

"Professors from Andhra University have also been usedas R&D consultants for missile projects, including in thedevelopment of the Brahmos missile. This is indeed animpressive body of work," Kovind added.

During his visit here, the president also released acommemorative stamp on INS Kalvari at INS Dega in the presenceof Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba and Flag OfficerCommanding-in-Chief of Eastern Naval Command Vice-AdmiralKarambir Singh. PTI DBVKRK.
