Lakhimpur Kheri (UP), Dec 7 (PTI) In a bid to bring down poaching activities, two squads of sniffer dog will be deployed in the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve (DTR) soon, a top official said today.

The squad would be deputed in the Dudhwa National Park as well as Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary, Deputy Director, DTR Mahavir Kaujlagi said. Both of them falls in the respective Tiger Reserve only.

"A sniffer dog of labrador species with two handlers would arrive in Dudhwa by Dec 16," the deputy director told PTI.

Traffic India -- a branch of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) which oversees wildlife crime matters -- has arranged the sniffer dog squads, WWF sources said here.

Another squad would be deputed at the Katarniaghat sanctuary, Kaujlagi said, adding that the sniffers had been intensively trained at the Gwalior army facility to enable them detect wildlife crimes.

He asserted that the sniffer squad would be vital in ensuring safety of wild species in DTR. PTI CORR ABN MG .
