Lakhimpur Kheri (UP), Dec 7 (PTI) In a bid to bring downpoaching activities, two squads of sniffer dog will bedeployed in the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve (DTR) soon, a topofficial said today.

The squad would be deputed in the Dudhwa National Parkas well as Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary, Deputy Director, DTRMahavir Kaujlagi said. Both of them falls in the respectiveTiger Reserve only.

"A sniffer dog of labrador species with two handlerswould arrive in Dudhwa by Dec 16," the deputy director toldPTI.

Traffic India -- a branch of the World Wildlife Fund(WWF) which oversees wildlife crime matters -- has arrangedthe sniffer dog squads, WWF sources said here.

Another squad would be deputed at the Katarniaghatsanctuary, Kaujlagi said, adding that the sniffers had beenintensively trained at the Gwalior army facility to enablethem detect wildlife crimes.

He asserted that the sniffer squad would be vital inensuring safety of wild species in DTR. PTI CORR ABNMG.
