Curitiba (Brazil), Dec 7 (AFP) Brazil's state oil companyPetrobras today received some USD 200 million in recoveredfunds from the giant "Car Wash" anti-corruption crackdown.

The restitution of 654 million reais was announced by thetroubled oil major in Curitiba, where the anti-graftinvestigation is headquartered.

The latest payment means that Petrobras has now recovered1.48 billion reais (USD 470 million) as a result of the probe.

Petrobras is at the center of "Car Wash," which startingin 2014 uncovered systemic embezzlement and bribery involvinga network of politicians and company executives. Some ofBrazil's biggest business figures and politicians have sincebeen arrested or investigated.

"Petrobras has been cooperating with prosecutors, thefederal police, the federal tax authorities, and with theother competent authorities since the start of theinvestigation, while improving its mechanisms for control anddecision making," Petrobras said.

Petrobras said it had been "recognized as a victim" andthat "judicial measures will continue to be taken againstcompanies and persons, including former employees andpoliticians, who damaged its finances and image." (AFP)NSA.
