New Delhi, Dec 8 (PTI) A three-day festival themed onBuddhist heritage today kicked off here as part of thecelebrations to mark the 20th anniversary of BIMSTEC.

'Bodhi Parva: BIMSTEC Festival of Buddhist Heritage' isscheduled to be held from December 8-10 at the India GandhiNational Centre for Arts (IGNCA), the Ministry of ExternalAffairs said.

"The festival would have diverse components including anexhibition of international and Indian Buddhist art andarchitecture, discourses by eminent scholars and practitionersof Buddhism, guided meditation and chanting by Buddhistmonks," the MEA said in a statement.

The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technicaland Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) is a regional organisationcomprising seven member states lying in the littoral andadjacent areas of the bay constituting a contiguous regionalunity.

The festival will also feature a choir, screening offilms on Buddhism, dance and music performances, quiz showbased on Buddhism and BIMSTEC and a food trail, the MEA said.

The event has been organised in keeping with the call ofBIMSTEC leaders to work collectively towards making BIMSTECstronger, more effective.

Bodhi Parva is an opportunity to reemphasise andcelebrate the strong Buddhist cultural heritage shared by allmember states.

The BIMSTEC member states are India, Bangladesh, Bhutan,Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand. PTI KNDKIS.
