Bengaluru, Dec 13 (PTI) A ghee adulteration racketwas today busted with the arrest of four persons here, policesaid.

Additional commissioner of police (Bengaluru East)Seemanth Kumar Singh said Aiyappa Swamy from K P Agrahara inthe city was the kingpin of the gang that started the businessof spurious ghee production and sale of 'Nandini,' ghee, apopular brand of the Karnataka Milk Federation.

He said a complaint was received from the KMF thatspurious ghee was being sold in the market in the name oftheir popular brand.

"Since public health and the popularity of Nandinibrand were at stake, we investigated and busted the racket,"Singh said.

Aiyappa Swamy alias Mani along with Eagle Enterprises' manager Maruthi, Nandini parlour agent Shivakumarand Sukumaran from Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu were partners in crime, he said.

To avoid getting caught, Mani used to produce gheein Tamil Nadu and assigned Shivakumar to circulate the productin the market, the police official said.

The ghee comprised a little amount of ghee, a good quantity of palm oil and vegetable oils.The production cost was less while the returns were more, Singh said. PTI GMS RABN.
