Kolkata, Dec 15 (PTI) West Bengal Chief MinisterMamata Banerjee today remembered the country's first homeminister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his death anniversary.
"Solemnly remembering the Iron Man of India, SardarVallabhbhai Patel on his death anniversary," Banerjee said ina tweet.
Patel, who was also the first deputy prime minister ofIndia, died on December 15, 1950 — three years afterIndependence — at the age of 75.
Known as the "Iron Man" of India, Patel wasinstrumental in uniting the country through the merger ofsmall princely states. PTI PNTRMS.
