New Delhi, Dec 15 (PTI) Railways said today that it hasextended the use of CCTV cameras for monitoring cleanlinessactivities at major railway stations.

In a written reply to a question, Minister of State forRailways Rajen Gohain said the national transporter has alsointensified the enforcement of the Railways (Penaltiesfor activities affecting cleanliness at railway premises)Rules, 2012.

"Regular intensive cleanliness drives are undertaken atvarious railway stations by Zonal Railways. Use of CCTVs hasbeen extended for monitoring of cleanliness activities atmajor stations," the minister said.

Presently, over 340 major railway stations have beenprovided with CCTV cameras for round-the-clock surveillance byRailway Protection Force for the security of passengers.

The minister stated that for better cleaning of coachesof trains, mechanised coach cleaning at depots, on boardhousekeeping services (OBHS) in important long distancetrains, “Clean My Coach” and Clean Train Station (CTS) schemeshave been provided.

"This has resulted in visible improvement in cleanliness.

New Standard Bid Document (SBD) has been issued recently whichis being implemented for integrated housekeeping of stationsand trains. This will further improve effectiveness ofhousekeeping contracts", Gohain said.

The amount allocated and utilised for cleanliness inrailways in the financial year 2016-17 is Rs 1080.81 crore andRs 1008.46 crore respectively. PTI ASGRT.
