Kolkata, Nov 14 (PTI) Hungarian actor Franciska Torocsik said her country's capital Budapest, its culture and its people have influenced the filmmaking culture of east European nations in more ways than one.
Torocsik's film 'Aurora Borealis' was screened at the Special Tribute section of the 23rd Kolkata International Film Festival yesterday.
"If you enter Budapest, see the view and people, you will understand the influence of this beautiful city on the filmmaking cultures of other east European nations," Torocsik, who played the lead role in the film, told PTI.
Stressing that Hungary is a member of the European Union, Torocsik said the country has come a long way and aims to be at par with Austria and Germany.
Referring to the Communist regime, she said Hungary had faced difficult times in 50s and 60s, but the country has made immense progress over the past few decades.
Another Hungarian delegation member Ivan Vitaris said, "There is no censorship over filmmakers now and in the last four years, movies from our country went to the Oscars and received appreciations at Berlin and Cannes festivals." Asked about her role in 'Aurora Borealis', which was released in Hungary a month back, Torocsik said, "The film starts in the 1950s and shows the journey of a woman over the next few decades. It encapsulates the past and the present and dwells on harassment of women as a subject." PTI SUS RMS .
