Guwahati, Nov 14 (PTI) A senior IAS officer of Assam wastoday arrested for alleged misappropriation of funds estimatedat Rs 121 crore in printing works of the state labourdepartment, police said.
The case pertains to 2013 and 2017, during which ChohanDoley served as Labour Commissioner twice.
Doley, at present the panchayat and rural developmentsecretary, was arrested by the Chief Minister's SpecialVigilance Cell (SVC).
"We have arrested Doley for misappropriation of fundsunder the Vigilance Case No 9/2017. The scam is estimated atRs 121 crore and it took place from 2013 to 2017," SVC SPKhanindra Kumar Choudhury told PTI here.
The case is related to awarding contracts to a privatefirm for printing leaflets, folders and other such materialsof the labour department during the said period, he added.
"Doley was admitted in Down Town Hospital. We picked himup from there, brought him to our office and arrested him. Wewill produce him before the court," Choudhury said.
He said the owner of the firm Piyangshu Bairagi hasalready been arrested.
"Further investigation is on. At this point of time, wecannot say anything more," he added when asked aboutpossibility of more arrests in the coming days.
In one of the biggest crackdown against corruption inrecent times, the SVC has arrested 22 civil services officialsin last six days in connection with the cash-for-job scam inthe Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) and is looking forthree more officials, who are evading arrests.
