Berhampur (Odisha), Nov 19 (PTI) Odisha Chief MinisterNaveen Patnaik today distributed aids and appliances andsocial security benefits to more than 26,000 differently-abledpeople in three camps held in Ganjam district.

The camps were held at Berhampur, Bhanjanagaraand Hinjili by the Department of Social Security andEmpowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD).

The chief minister visited all the camps.

Out of 27,512 identified persons with disabilities inthe district, as many as 26,002 attended the camps.

"Ganjam is perhaps the first district in the world todistribute aids and appliances to such a large number ofpersons with disabilities in a single day," said DistrictSocial Security officer (DSSO) Balaram Sethi.

Besides distributing tricycles, wheelchairs, walkingsticks, walking sticks for the blind and hearing aids, thechief minister also handed over other social benefits such asmarriage incentives of Rs 50,000 each to 11 couples andscholarships of Rs 350 each per month to six children for 10months.

Ration cards under the National Food Security Act(NFSA), income certificate, residential certificate, DRI loan,agriculture kits, house under Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana (BPGY)and assistance from chief minister's relief fund (CMRF) weredistributed to the persons with disabilities in the camps.
