VietnamKolkata, Oct 11 (PTI) Energy Efficiency ServicesLimited (EESL) has initiated a feasibility study on theprospects of launching efficient domestic lighting programmein the Southeast Asian country.

"A feasibility study is underway in Vietnam, funded bythe United Nations Environment Programme, on the possibilityof launching country-wide efficient domestic lightingprogramme," EESL CGM (technical) S P Garnaik told PTI.

He said an agreement with Vietnam Electricity (EVN)was signed last year to roll out such a programme.

EVN is Vietnam's state-held company and is in chargeof domestic electricity generation, transmission, distributionand trading.

Garnaik said there is a potential of replacing 100million power inefficient bulbs with LEDs in that country. Theprogramme could begin from March 2018.

He said EESL will help Vietnam formulate a frameworkbased on which EVN can execute such projects.

EESL has also established an agreement with Cambodianenterprise D&D Group to scout opportunities for energyefficiency projects in Vietnam and Cambodia.

Garnaik said EESL is also offering consultancy tomanage energy efficient programmes that include aggregatingdemand, procurement and execution.

EESL implemented LED lamps distribution scheme -'UJALA' in various parts of India.

EESL's work has been recognised in the internationalcircuit with the IEA (International Energy Agency) publishinga case study on UJALA.

The Government of India has included EESL's work ingovernment-to-government engagements in UK, Sri Lanka,Nepal, Bangladesh, Vietnam and Indonesia. PTI BSM JMMM.
