Guwahati, Oct 13 (PTI) A major beautification projectalong the Brahmaputra riverfront has been mooted by theGuwahati Smart City Development Agency Limited (GSCDAL), anofficial release said here today.
Once implemented, the riverfront will have anesplanade for people to walk for recreational purpose withsitting provision, night illumination, facility for cycling,leisurely sightseeing and high-thrill rides by speedboats andjetties for sea planes to take off.
The proposed project has been designed by TataConsultancy Services in partnership with a Netherlands-basedfirm after thorough hydrological study of the river, therelease said.
The agency office bearers made a presentation beforeChief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on the proposedbeautification project of the 5.2-km stretch of theBrahmaputra river from Rajbhawan to Kamakhya in acomprehensive and sustainable manner.
The Chief Minister asked the agency to prepare thedetailed project reflecting the cultural heritage of thestate.
"The Brahmaputra riverfront in Guwahati holdstremendous potential to boost tourism in the state. Thebeautification project should be aesthetically appealing andreflect the cultural heritage of Assam in its work," he said.
Sonowal also asked GSCDAL to include provisions forprayer and festival plaza, perennial water channel along thebank and jetties for sea planes to take off in the project.
He added that the beautification work should notdisturb the normal course of the river.
Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup (Metro), who is also theManaging Director of GSCDAL, M Angamuthu while apprising theChief Minister about the development of the initiativeinformed that a master plan for the project has already beenprepared and survey and feasibility study have also beencompleted.
