Bhubaneswar, Oct 13 (PTI) Seeking protection of dalitsin BJP ruled Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, the Scheduled Castecell of the ruling BJD in Odisha today staged a dharna infront of the Raj Bhavan here.
In a memorandum to the President of India throughOdisha Governor, the BJD Dalit cell demanded action againstthe culprits who perpetrated atrocities on scheduled castepeople in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.
"If the atrocities on dalits in the two states ofUttar Pradesh and Gujarat are not stopped immediately, we maybe bound to have a 'Hartal' in all states of India," the BJDmemorandum signed by its chairperson Bishnu Charan Das andothers said.
Citing specific instances of atrocities on dalits inUttar Pradesh and Gujarat, the BJD Scheduled Caste Cellclaimed that their community men and women were in safe handsunder the Naveen Patnaik administration.
Reacting over the protest, the opposition BJP saidthat the BJD leaders need to go to Uttar Pradesh and Gujaratto lodge complaint. There is no point in making noise inOdisha, said BJP state vice-president Samir Mohanty. PTI AAMRG.
