Jammu, Oct 13 (PTI) Schools were today closed down byauthorities along a section of the Line of Control (LoC) inJammu and Kashmir's Poonch district due to firing and shellingby Pakistani troops, a district official said.

"The schools along the LoC in Digwar and Khadi Karmarawere closed in view of the firing and shelling by Pakistantoday," Deputy Commissioner, Poonch, Tariq Ahmed Zargar said.

However, Zargar said schools in other areas in thehinterland were open.

The schools were closed only for today in view of theshelling, he said, adding the situation along the border linewas under control as firing and shelling stopped around 1430hours.

Pakistani troops today violated ceasefire for a secondconsecutive day and resorted to firing and mortar shelling atforward areas along the LoC in Poonch, drawing strongretaliation from the Indian Army.

"Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminatefiring of small arms, automatics and mortars from 0745 hoursin Krishnagati (KG) sector along the Line of Control (LoC)today," a Defence Spokesman said.

Yesterday, an army jawan and a civilian porter werekilled and six others including a porter were injured whenPakistani troops opened fire and shelling at forward areasalong the LoC in Poonch. PTI AB DKKIS.
