Hyderabad, Oct 13 (PTI) The Telangana government today requested the industry body CII to help set up a centre of excellence for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Such a facility will help SMEs undertake "smart manufacturing", a top government official said here.
Jayesh Ranjan, principal secretary, Department of Industries and Commerce, said immense changes happening in technologies have benefited a lot of local players in the state, especially the SMEs.
"This created a pan-Indian culture in Hyderabad and also a whole range of ancillaries to support the large PSUs. I am happy to mention that the small and medium companies could raise to the occasion and even become exporters," he said.
Ranjan was speaking at a programme organised by the CII, Telangana unit.
"How do we ensure that the entire industry adopts smart manufacturing? I would urge the CII to support a centre of excellence on smart manufacturing in Hyderabad," he said.
The official said institutional development is of prime importance to the state government and the Telangana Academy of Skills and Knowledge (TASK) takes care of skill development in the state.
To support the manufacturing sector, the government will soon come up with a few sectoral policies related to food processing and electric vehicle, among others, he added. PTI GDK RSY .
