Hyderabad, Oct 13 (PTI) The Telangana government todayrequested the industry body CII to help set up a centre ofexcellence for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Such a facility will help SMEs undertake "smartmanufacturing", a top government official said here.

Jayesh Ranjan, principal secretary, Department ofIndustries and Commerce, said immense changes happening intechnologies have benefited a lot of local players in thestate, especially the SMEs.

"This created a pan-Indian culture in Hyderabad andalso a whole range of ancillaries to support the large PSUs. Iam happy to mention that the small and medium companies couldraise to the occasion and even become exporters," he said.

Ranjan was speaking at a programme organised by theCII, Telangana unit.

"How do we ensure that the entire industry adoptssmart manufacturing? I would urge the CII to support a centreof excellence on smart manufacturing in Hyderabad," he said.

The official said institutional development is ofprime importance to the state government and the TelanganaAcademy of Skills and Knowledge (TASK) takes care of skilldevelopment in the state.

To support the manufacturing sector, the governmentwill soon come up with a few sectoral policies related to foodprocessing and electric vehicle, among others, he added. PTIGDKRSY.
