New Delhi, Oct 17 (PTI) A city court has sought an actiontaken report from the Delhi Police on a complaint about theonline sale of ashtrays portraying a naked woman by three e-commerce majors.
The complaint was filed against online shopping portalsAmazon India, Ebay and Shopclues and their Managing Directorsfor allegedly selling an ashtray in the shape of a nude woman.
The case came up before Chief Metropolitan MagistrateBabru Bhan, who sought an action taken report (ATR) from theDelhi Police on the plea for lodging FIR against them.
The court directed directed the police to apprise it ifany action has been taken on the complaint.
"SHO, Subzi Mandi police station is directed to file anaction taken report stating whether any complaint has beenmade by the complainant in the police station and if anyaction has been taken on it," the magistrate said.
The court, while seeking the ATR by October 30, alsoasked if as a result of investigation, any cognisable offencewas made out against the accused or an FIR registered.
The complaint lodged by advocate Gaurav Gulati has soughtregistration of FIR for offences punishable under sections 107(Abetment of an offence), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 293(sale of obscene objects to young person) of the IPC, besidesrelevant provisions of Indecent Representation of Women Actand the Information Technology Act.
The complaint alleged that as per media reports publishedon internet on June 6, the online shopping portals were"selling nude woman figurine ash-tray which was indecent.""The ashtray ... drew severe criticism on social media.
