Los Angeles, Oct 27 (PTI) Veteran actor Jane Fonda hassaid that the reason Harvey Weinstein sexual assault scandalis getting so much attention is because most of his accusersare "famous and white".

Fonda had condemned the producer after allegationsagainst him became public.

"It feels like something has shifted. It's too bad thatit's probably because so many of the women that were assaultedby Harvey Weinstein are famous and white and everybody knowsthem. This has been going on a long time to black women andother women of colour and it doesn't get out quite the same,"Fonda said during an appearance on "All In With Chris Hayes".

Gloria Steinem also accompanied Fonda on the show asrepresentatives of The Women's Media Centre, a non-profitfounded by Steinem and Fonda along with poet Robin Morgan in2005.

Weinstein has been accused of sexual misconduct, including rape and assault, by over 60 women and the scandalhas led to many other women opening up about their experiencein the industry, leading to the firing of several otherpowerful executives in Hollywood.

Celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie andCara Delevingne and Lupita Nyong'o have come forward since theOctober 5 expose on Weinstein.

Steinem said Weinstein's behaviour had reached a tippingpoint.

"If you steal money, you probably get arrested andconvicted, because everybody says stealing is wrong. But ifyou do something that is very sexist or racist, because therestill is a critical mass of bias in this country, it takesmore cumulative instances for it to be recognised. So we havereached a tipping point I think," she said. PTI BKBK.
