Rajnath Singh Belagavi (Karna), Jan 13 (PTI) The NDA government isbringing rapid infrastructural development in the rural sectorto raise farmers' income and the Prime Minister was preparedto invest more in the agriculture sector and food processingby 2022 to make agriculture more profitable, Union HomeMinister Rajnath Singh said here today.
Stating this while delivering the inaugural address atthe National Krishik Samaj convention, he said that since theinput cost of agriculture was increasing, any amount ofsubsidy would fall short.
He also said farmers' should engage in poultry, animalhusbandry and fishing to increase their income.
Calling farmers a brave community, he said unlikeindustry, the agriculturist engages in farming knowing fullywell that the sector was not profitable.
To protect their interest, the NDA government has beengiving insurance benefit even for 30 per cent crop loss, hesaid.
Singh said at least one son of a farmer should engagehimself in other sectors, apart from farming.
Even today, over 55 per cent of the population is engagedin agriculture and the Green Revolution should be a permanentfeature to attract youth into agriculture, he added.
It was BJP in Karnataka and other states which in thepast brought down the interest rate on farm loans from fourper cent to zero as per his advice as the then BJP president,Singh said. PTI COR RA APRAPR.
