Tehran, Jan 14 (AP) Iran's semi-official ILNA news agencyis reporting that the ban on a popular messaging app has beenlifted, two weeks after waning anti-government protests inwhich more than 21 people were killed.

The today report says Telegram, which has some 40 millionusers in Iran, is now accessible once again through both Wi-Fiand mobile networks.

The Associated Press spoke today with residents fromseveral cities across the country, including Shiraz, Isfahan,Bandar Abbas, Rasht and Oroumieh, who all confirmed that theynow have access to the app.

Iran shut down Telegram and the picture-sharing appInstagram during the protests in early January, saying rioterswere using them to spread unrest. Soon afterward authoritiesrestored access to Instagram but Telegram remained banned.
