Odisha Government to rope in private coaching centres for Civil Service Examination

The State Government has invited Expression of Interest (EoI) from various professional civil service coaching institutes to engage them in Civil Service Examination Study Centres.

BHUBANESWAR: The State Government has invited Expression of Interest (EoI) from various professional civil service coaching institutes to engage them in Civil Service Examination Study Centres that have been set up at various universities to facilitate needy and eligible students with good coaching facilities within Odisha.

“The EoI will be invited from July 12 for empanelment of leading coaching institutes for UPSC civil services exams and all other competitive exams. These institutes will partner with Higher Education Department to impart coaching at university level,” said an official of the department.

While August 3 is the last date for receipt of EoI, a pre-bid meeting will be organised. After scrutiny of the applications, qualified coaching centres will have to give a presentation before the State-level screening committee on August 18, after which they will be engaged for imparting coaching.

The civil service coaching centres have been set up at Utkal University, Berhampur University, Sambalpur University, RD Women’s University, GM University, Ravenshaw University and Fakir Mohan University to provide coaching and guidance to students aspiring to appear for civil services. Official sources admitted that the decision was taken due to unavailability of teaching staff with relevant competency is affecting the quality of coaching. According to sources, coaching centres functioning for at least three years and having minimum enrolment of 200 per annum will be considered for partnership.

“Of the admission fee, students will pay 25 per cent and the rest will be borne by the government to the empanelled institutes,” Department officials said, adding, “cases where the parental income of an eligible student is only up to `2 lakh per annum, the State Government will bear 100 per cent course fee.”
