Prarthana overcomes Anjana in pre-quarters

Prarthana G Thombare of India defeated compatriot Anjana Kompally 6-4, 6-1 in the girls’ singles pre-quarterfinals of the Chennai ITF Women’s Tennis Championship.

Andhra beat TN

Andhra Pradesh blanked Tamil Nadu 7-0 in the girls’ segment of the third sub-junior South Zone Hockey Championship on  Wednesday. Andhra boys also beat Kerala 7-1.

RESULTS: Boys: AP 7 (R Kamal 19, Jithendra 31, Shahbas Khan 33, Prabhu Kumar 34, Prudvi Raj 46 & Sasi Kumar 54) bt Kerala 1 (MS Imnad Farshid 66). Girls: AP 7 (Bharathi 16, 61, Navaneethakumari 6, 38, 46, Geetha 40, Spandana 50) bt TN 0.

Sailor honoured

Tamil Nadu Sailing Association sailor Aishwarya Nedunchezhian was one of the five athletes to be endowed with the Tamil Nadu government’s Elite Sportsperson Scholarship.

This is the first time a sailor has achieved prominence of such magnitude in the state.
