Mohammedan Sporting edge Samity

Mohammedan Sporting defeated Southern Samity 1-0 in an all-Kolkata affair in the final phase of the 2nd division I-League football tournament at the Bangalore Football Stadium.

There was little difference between the two teams early on, but it was Samity who fell behind in the 35th minute. Defender Emmanuel lost his footing while trying to clear and handled the ball inside the box. Referee Balasubramaniam pointed to the spot and Charles Dzisah slammed it into the net for what turned out to be the match-winner.

In another match, Bhawanipore FC, Kolkata, and Langsning FC, Shillong, played out an exciting 3-3 draw. Hudson put Bhawanipore ahead in the 13th minute only for Daniel to equalise 4 minutes later. Suting then scored in the 20th to put Langsning ahead and Joel made it 3-1. But Bhawanipore put up a spirited fightback. Dipendu found the net a minute into injury time to make it 2-3. Hudson netted for the 2nd time in the 69th min to ensure a share of the spoils for his side.
