West Brom to Fine Berahino and Sell Him in Summer

West Bromwich Albion are ready to scrap contract talks with Saido Berahino and will consider offers for the forward in the summer.

Albion will reluctantly allow the England Under-21 international to leave the Hawthorns at the end of the season in what appears increasingly likely to be an acrimonious parting of the ways.

Berahino is also set to be fined for giving an interview to Sky Sports which was agreed without the permission of his club, in which he admitted he hoped to "move on to bigger things".

The 21-year-old declared he was focused on scoring the goals to keep West Brom in the Premier League before leaving at the end of the season.

Berahino's interview comes three weeks after he was banned from driving for 12 months after pleading guilty to drink-driving and has infuriated senior members of the dressing room.

Albion officials are also growing increasingly exasperated with his conduct and will abandon plans to restart negotiations over a new contract. The club had intended to open talks once the transfer window closed but there is now an acceptance that he will be sold, albeit on the club's terms.

Berahino has reportedly attracted interest from Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur after an impressive season to date but Albion did not receive any bids in the January transfer window. However, they do expect interest in the summer and will listen to offers of more than pounds 20?million for the former youth trainee.

Berahino is certain to be crucial for the club for the remainder of the season as Tony Pulis's team battle to avoid relegation to the Championship.

In the interview, he said: "I'm taking care of my short-term goals right now and if I keep scoring goals and doing well for West Brom, I know the future will be bright for me and I'll go a long way.

"I need to stay focused on what I'm doing right now, which is scoring the goals and keeping West Brom in the Premier League.

"If I can keep them up and score as many goals as I can, I'm pretty sure the fans wouldn't mind me pushing on and moving on to bigger things."

Pulis is expected to address the issue when he holds his press conference at Albion's training ground this afternoon.

Berahino has scored 14 goals this season and in November was called up to Roy Hodgson's England squad for the Euro 2016 qualifying game against Slovenia and the friendly against Scotland.
