Arsenal Beat Crystal Palace 2-1 to Move Up to Third in EPL

LONDON — Arsenal climbed to third in the English Premier League following a 2-1 win at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The Gunners were awarded a penalty in the seventh minute after league debutant Pape Souare felled Danny Welbeck in the area. Santi Cazorla converted the spot kick for his seventh goal of the season.

Palace pressed for an equalizer but failed to capitalize on their heavy spells of possession. They were punished shortly before the interval when Welbeck's initial strike was parried into Olivier Giroud's path, and the striker netted from close range.

Substitute Glenn Murray set up a tense finale after his 90th-minute goal reduced the deficit, but Arsenal held on for the three points that moved the North London side above Manchester United, which lost 2-1 to Swansea.
