It might be difficult to gauge how many people made it a point to go to Chepauk, just to watch Yuvraj Singh make his comeback into international cricket. But, going by the number of signs that said welcome in as many ways to Yuvi, and the massive cheer that went around when he strutted out to the middle, it would suffice to say that there were quite a few.
“This particular match meant a lot to me since I am a die-hard Yuvraj Singh fan. I was so happy when the Vizag match was washed out because I got to see his comeback here,” gushes Rohith Khanna, echoing the sentiments of plenty of the blue-jerseyed crowd.
Though the man who survived cancer and has returned to the field was bowled just short of taking India home, it wasn’t enougah to wipe the smiles off his fans faces, “It was a disappointment when we lost by such a small margin, but Yuvi is back on the international scene and his individual performance was brilliant!” he adds.
Whether Chennai made Yuvi feel welcomed enough or not, a group of Rajinikanth fans certainly made their support count - “Yuvraj and thalaivar (Rajini) were born on December 12 and both have braved death, so our association went to the stadium to cheer him on,” said S Ravi, the head of a Rajinikanth fan club.
