Pujara, Kohli Seal India's Best Away Day

Statistical highlights of the third day's play in the first Test between India and South Africa at Johannesburg.

#By finishing on 284 for 2, India sealed one of the best Test days playing away from home. India's previous best day in an away Test was at Colombo PSS on August 7, 2010 where they made 205 for 2 (VVS Laxman 103*) on the last day to win by five wickets.

#Shikhar Dhawan (15) was the only man dismissed in the first session of India's second innings, edging one to Jacques Kallis in the slip cordon. Dhawan also became Vernon Philander's 100th Test wicket.

#Overall Philander was also the joint-sixth fastest to reach the 100-wicket milestone. The last bowler to do so was India's R Ashwin.

# Cheteshwar Pujara's century was his sixth Test ton overall in his 16th Test and his first hundred against South Africa.

#Pujara and Kohli scored 175 runs in the final session at a run-rate of 4.61 to extend the lead to 320 runs.

#Pujara's last nine innings in Tests: 204, 1, 28, 52, 82*, 17, 113, 25 and 135*.

#Pujara and Kohli also added an unbeaten 191 runs for the third wicket. Pujara was given a reprieve by Imran Tahir when he was on 51. Tahir dropped a catch off his own bowling in the 47th over.

#With a total of 196 runs (119 + 77*), Virat Kohli recorded a personal best of most runs in a Test match. Previously he had made 154 runs (103+51*) against New Zealand at Bangalore in September 2012.

#No Indian batting at No. 4 has made Test 100s in each innings of a Test match. Kohli has an opportunity to achieve that feat on Saturday.

#Kohli (119 & 77*) is now the second Indian after Rahul Dravid (148 & 81 at Jo'burg 1997) to make a 100 & 50 in same Test match in South Africa.

#South African ODI captain and wicket-keeper AB de Villiers, who bowled an over in India's second innings, has two wickets in international cricket - West Indians Darren Powell and Tino Best in 2004.
