CHENNAI: Spinners M Prabhu (5/37) and S Suresh Kumar (3/11) helped India Pistons bowl out UFCC (T Nagar) for a paltry 91 and bag a lead of 79 runs on Day 1 of their Plate group fifth-round clash in the TNCA Senior Division league for the SR Jagannathan Trophy.

Anna Nagar K Win

In the 60-plus event of the Sanmar-TNTA Veterans Chennai City Club League championship, Anna Nagar K Block defeated Gandhinagar Club B to claim the title.

Anna Nagar’s R Krishnaswamy and MS Venkatachalam claim the first set 6-3. Gandhinagar’s pair of Dr L Srinivasan and Rajagopal then fought back to win the second set 6-1. The decider saw intense efforts by both pairs, but Anna Nagar took the set, and title, 7-5.

Results: Anna Nagar K Block bt Gandhinagar B 1-0 (R Krishnaswamy/MS Venkatachalam bt Dr L Srinivasan/Rajagopal 6-3, 1-6, 7-5).

Chess Selections

The Chennai District Chess Association will conduct selection trials for the State senior open and women’s chess championship (open for Tamil Nadu players) at the Hall of Chess, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, on April 9 and 10.
