Just one day after former Indian Team Director Ravi Shastri hitting out at Sourav Ganguly saying he was "disrespectful" of the candidate he was interviewing and the job of selecting the coach he was entrusted with, the later hit back saying that Shastri should have been present during the interview at Kolkata.

While interacting with the news channel CNN-News 18, Ganguly said that he has been extremely surprised and saddened by Shastri's comments.

Earlier, attacking Ganguly for absenting himself when his turn for interviewing came last week, Shastri advised the former to attend a meeting next time, when someone is being interviewed for a key post like the India coaching one.

"next time be in the meeting when someone is being interviewed for such a top post", said the former team director

In response, Ganguly today said that it was earlier decided that he would have to attend an important Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) administrative meeting, as it's president, at the same time when the interview process was going on.

The former India captain also added that instead of holidaying at Bangkok, Shastri should have been present physically during the interview.

Shastri gave the interview, along with presenting the road map for the future of the Indian cricket team, across all formats, through a skype interview from Bangkok.
