Hard day’s work for TN colts in Vadodara

CHENNAI: A century by Urvil Patel (104) and an unbeaten 99 by Dhruv Patel put Baroda in command against Tamil Nadu on the second day of their Cooch Behar Trophy U-19 Group C league match at the Reliance Stadium, Vadodara, on Tuesday.


Baroda were comfortably placed at 354 for seven in 103 overs at the end of day’s play. Urvil and Dhruv stitched together 206 runs in 64 overs for the seventh wicket, and enabled their side to bag a lead of 91 runs.
However, a tired Urvil was castled by Jaganath Srinivas. The latter was quite impressive with the ball for Tamil Nadu, finishing the day with the figures of 3/56. He was ably supported in the bowling department by Ajith Kumar, whose tally of 4/73 was the best for Tamil Nadu.

School hockey
Government HSS (Ariyalur) won the 14th South Zone inter-school hockey tournament for boys. The winner got `15,000, while the runner-up was richer by `10,000. The third-placed team received `5,000. Former Indian hockey captain V Baskaran gave away the prizes.
