CHENNAI: The court-appointed committee of administrators (CoA) on Thursday sent an email to the BCCI units, asking them to furnish the names of office-bearers and the dates when they took charge. Asking those who have completed nine years in office or don’t fulfil the full set of criteria to leave seems to be the next logical step, as the committee’s sets about the process of implementing court orders on Lodha recommendations.
Of the 31 units, only Vidarbha and Tripura have so far changed consitution as per the order. While several associations like Mumbai, Andhra, Kerala have replaced ‘disqualified’ office-bearers with ‘eligible’ candidates, there are units like Tamil Nadu where N Srinivasan continues to be the president.

With relationship between the CoA having taken a turn for the better after a meeting in Delhi on May 6, units are expected to respond to the CoA mail, unlike a few previous occasions when they didn’t.
Acknowledging Thursday’s mail as the “first definitive step” taken by the CoA with regards to implementing court orders after being busy with other matters like ICC and IPL since being formed on January 31, BCCI members are hoping to do some bargaining.
Based on talks at the May 6 meeting, they are expecting the CoA to request the court to reconsider a few contentious points.

“Most of the state bodies have replaced disqualified office-bearers. So sending the list of names is not a concern for them,” said an office-bearer of a state unit. “What the CoA does with the names might concern some of us. But after the May 6 talks, a lot of BCCI members are willing to follow instructions of the CoA. This is something that has to be done. If we get a few exemptions in the process, why oppose them?”
The national body’s members are banking on CoA chief Vinod Rai’s apparent assurance on May 6 that three-four points like one-state-one-vote, restriction of 70 years on office-bearers and a cooling-off period after every three years.

“We’ve been told that if we implement the orders, the CoA will request the court to reconsider a few contentious issues. If these things are sorted, we don’t see any point in fighting the CoA over everything. We’ve seen signs that the CoA is willing to take up our cause if we relent on the majority of issues,” said another BCCI member.
