No tabling of annual report in HCA AGM

The Hyderabad Cricket Association’s recently elected administrators will meet the members in their first annual general meeting (AGM) on May 28.

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Cricket Association’s recently elected administrators will meet the members in their first annual general meeting (AGM) on May 28. In a departure from tradition, the annual report will not be tabled. The HCA treasurer, P Mahender, revealed on Thursday it would take them longer to complete the report.

Tabling annual reports at the AGM is a procedure that most sports bodies in India including the BCCI follow. Normally read out by the secretary, it summarises the association’s activities over the year. There are HCA members who expressed surprise at the news that the report won’t be submitted this year.
However, the current set of HCA officials are of the opinion that the previous administration was sluggish in maintaining a system. “The expenses needed to be updated in the system. Everything, from daily expenditures to the money spent while the team is travelling, had to be entered. They (previous administration) failed to do that. It will take about 45 days more to prepare the report,” Mahender told Express.

Many major decisions are to be taken, as the HCA moves towards changing its constitution as per Supreme Court orders on Lodha recommendations. “Appointing ombudsman, ethics officer and auditor will be discussed. Our cricket advisory committee has given a few guidelines. Those matters will also be discussed,” HCA secretary T Shesh Narayan said.

The newly formed advisory panel comprises of VVS Laxman, Venkatapathi Raju and former women’s international Purnima Rau. On the important issue of amending the HCA constitution to fall in line with Lodha guidelines, Narayan said, “The CoA has been advising us. This will also come up.”

Mahender claimed he has put responsibility of updating accounts on four persons, unlike practice during the previous regime. “They had only one person doing all work, and that’s a reason why it was not updated properly.” When a former HCA official was contacted by this newspaper, he expressed surprise at the timing of the meeting. “How can an AGM be held when the constitution is yet to be amended?” questioned the member who will attend the meeting.
