INDORE: Love for cricket in the smaller cities of India is unparalleled. At times, there could be as much people outside the stadium as there are inside. Indore is one of those places. People had lined up at the counters about 24 hours before the sale of tickets for the India-Australia ODI had actually begun.

Due to the website selling online tickets suffering a crash, most of the 17,000-odd tickets on offer for the public were sold from the counters. A situation like this was just ripe for black-marketing of tickets and that is what happened. The crime branch of Indore police arrested 10 people in connection with this over the last few days.

Two of them were apprehended because they were caught selling fake tickets at higher prices. “We have arrested 10 persons in the two days leading up to the match day. Two of them were selling fake tickets made from a scanned copy of an original ticket,” Harinarayanachari Mishra, DIG, Indore Police, told Express on Sunday.

The police say that those trying the innovative method are in their early twenties.”The duo had made 40 copies of one ticket and sold 31 of them. They told us that they pocketed around Rs 41,000 by selling those tickets. We nabbed them with the remaining nine,” Mishra said.

Queried whether the pair have previous police records, the official said, “No. They have no crime records. In fact, they are well educated and have done graduation in courses like engineering.” This is not the first instance of sale of fake tickets as the previous IPL season had also seen a similar incident.
