ATHENS: Defending champion Olympiakos barely avoided a surprise home defeat at the hands of Asteras in the Greek league on Saturday, snatching a 1-1 draw.

Uros Durdevic's penalty kick four minutes into second-half stoppage time was enough to keep Olympiakos at the top of the standings, a position it shares with PAOK, a 1-0 winner over Panetolikos.

Michalis Manias opened the scoring for Asteras in the 55th, also with a penalty kick.

Also, Levadiakos beat Xanthi 1-0 with its own penalty kick.

AEK and Panionios, playing at Lamia on Sunday and Giannena on Monday, respectively, have a chance to vault over Olympiakos and PAOK.
