CHENNAI:The website of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), an official arm of the Ministry of Education, has said that their team would be travelling to Chennai for the upcoming squash meet in the city. Under the ‘What’s New’ section on the home page, a small notice says: “Pakistan squash team is participating in the 19th Asian Individual Squash Championship to be held in Chennai.”

Given `tense relations between the two countries, there has not been enough clarity with regards to whether they would indeed make the trip but this seems to confirm that they have submitted all necessary paperwork. Over the last few weeks, there were conflicting signals being put out. While an official within the Federation told Express that Pakistan were yet to submit an entry list, another official said their name is there in the ‘final list’.

Coming here to take part in the continental event is also in line with the stated objective of trying to rediscover their mojo. “I’m sure with top class facilities and international standard coaching, Pakistani players will soon regain their lost touch and start playing at the highest level,” The Nation, a Pakistan daily, had quoted the new Pakistan Squash Federation secretary.

Meanwhile, with Nicol David missing the event, there is a good chance of Joshna Chinappa being seeded as high as No 2.
