CHENNAI: Sushmit Sriram of MVM defeated E Prabhakaran of SRSA in the men’s final of the second Sonplas Gmbh state-ranking table tennis tournament on Sunday. Reeth Rishya of IOC clinched the women’s crown.

Winners: Men: Sushmit Sriram (MVM). Boys: Mini Cadet: Tejas Ram (SPTTC); Cadet: Preyesh (Mdx); Sub-junior: Preyesh (Mdx); Junior: Arjun Raju (RTTA); Youth: V Abinay (CTTF). Women: Reeth Rishya (IOC).  Girls: Mini Cadet: Sharwani (LTTA); Cadet: VS Nehal (SDAT-Mdu); Sub-Junior: Nithyashree (Ch Ach); Junior: S Yashini (MVM); Youth: Selena Deepthi (MVM).

St Joseph’s A beat Kerala in the league round of the ninth St Joseph’s all-India ball badminton invitation tournament.

ICF, Chennai, Western Railway, South Eastern Railway, TRC (Coimbatore), Southern Railway, Kerala, BSA University and St Joseph’s A qualified for the semifinal super league.

Poiyamozhi shines

An all-round display by Poiyamozhi helped Standard CC beat MAS CC by 34 runs in their TNCA-Thiruvallur DCA First Division league match.

Brief scores: Standard CC 170 in 44.2 ovs (Poiyamozhi 49; Vinoth Kumar 3/42, Vasanth Saravanan 3/42, Srivatsan 3/42) bt MAS CC 136 in 41.5 ovs (Poiyamozhi 4/32; Arunachalam 3/28).
