MADRID: Swiss Roger Federer achieved a new record as he qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals for the 15th time, the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) announced on Monday.

One day after he won a record eighth Wimbledon title after beating Croatian Marin Cilic, ATP said that the 19-time Grand Slam champion has already booked a place at the season-ending tournament, held in London from November 12-19, after missing the last edition, reports Efe.

"I was sad not to be able to compete last year as I love playing there and had not missed the event since 2002," Federer told the ATP website.

That will be the 15th appearance for Federer, who also holds the record, 14 straight appearances in the elite eight-player event, which he has won six times.

The 35-year-old Federer has booked his spot at the tournament this year on the heels of Spain's Rafael Nadal, who won his record-extending 10th title at the French Open.
