GSTAAD: Patty Schnyder's 38 years caught up with her on Thursday when the Swiss veteran lost 7-6 (7/0), 2-6, 6-3 to Germany's Antonia Lottner at the Gstaad clay court event.

The former world number seven, now ranked at 257, was playing on a wildcard and justified the organisers' decision by knocking out compatriot Amra Sadikovic in the first round.

Schnyder retired after an opening round exit at Roland Garros in 2011 before making a comeback in 2015, playing on the lower-level tour.
