Lifetime achievement award for Potturi

The V R Narla Lifetime Achievement Award 2004 was awarded to Potturi Venkateswara Rao, former editor of Andhra Prabha.

HYDERABAD: The State Government’s Best Journalist Awards for the years 2004 to 2007 have been announced.

Forty six journalists from print and electronic media have been selected for the awards in 10 categories by a four-member Government appointed committee.

The V R Narla Lifetime Achievement Award for 2004 was awarded to Potturi Venkateswara Rao, former editor of Andhra Prabha, senior journalist G S Varadachari for 2005, I Venkata Rao, former Andhra Jyothi editor for 2006 and K Sreenivas Reddy, resident editor of Visaalandhra for 2007.

* B Nageshwara Rao Best Journalist Award: Vanam Venkateshwarlu, Bureau Chief, Vartha, Khammam (2004), B S Ramakrishna, senior journalist (2005), Dattaram Khatri, Assistant News Editor, Central Editorial Board, Eenadu, Hyderabad (2006), B Purushotham, News Co-ordinator, NTV, Hyderabad (2007).

* M A Raheem Best Photographer Award: Mohan Rao, Freelance journalist (2004), Md Shoukat, Eetemaad (2005), P V Siva Kumar, The Hindu (2006), B K Ramesh, freelance journalist (2007).

* Madduri Annapurnaiah Award: Rajahmundry Samachar edited by Gandham Naga Subrahmanyam (2004), Poddu, edited by Bysa Ramadasu (2005), Maha Nagar, edited by Panchajanya (2006), Swarnaandhra, edited by K B G Tilak (2007).

* Best Cartoonist Award: T Venkatrao, cartoonist for Visalandhra, Vijaywada (2004), P Narsimha, Dty Chief Illustrator, India Today Telugu, Chennai (2005), K Chandra Sekhar, cartoonist with Andhra Jyothi (2006), Pamarthi Sankar, cartoonist with Saakshi (2007).

* Best Urdu Journalist Award: Hussain Ali Khan alias Chandra Srivastava, senior journalist (2004), Munawer Ali, Siasat (2005), Ghazanfar Ali Khan, Munsif (2006), Nasim Arifi, Eetemaad (2007).

* Best Electronic Media Journalist Award: Addanki Sriram Kumar, Trexi Reporter, AIR, Hyderabad (2004), Bevara Kesava Rao, Output Editor, Mahaa TV, Hyderabad (2006), S B Rahamtulla Sasisree, District News Reporter, Prajasakthi, Kadapa (2007).

* Best Videographer Award: M Srinivasa Rao, Senior Cameraman, TV9, Hyderabad (2004), S Ramesh, cameraman, ETV, Dhawaleshwaram, Rajahmundry (2005), Muralidhar Singh, Senior Cameraman, TV9, Hyderabad (2006), Vemali Seshagiri Rao, Senior Cameraman, TV9, Hyderabad (2007).

A P Press Academy chairman Devulapalli Amar (Committee Chairman), Sriram Murthy of Surya, senior journalist Turlapati Kutumba Rao and Professor of Journalism at Osmania University, Ranjana Shah selected the awardees. The awards will be given by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy at a function to be held in February.
