Four persons, including three of a family, died after the ambulance they were travelling in collided with a stationary lorry at Itikyalapadu in Manavapudu mandal, Mahboobnagar district, on Thursday.
The family went to Hyderabad for a medical check-up and were returning home when the mishap occurred. The deceased included Subbarayudu (70), a retired teacher of Chittoor district, his wife Venkatamma (63), son Subrahmanyam (27) and ambulance driver Chinnarayudu (40).
SI Appaiah said that a few days ago, Venkatamma suffered a heart attack and was being treated. She was asked to visit the hospital again and so the family went to Hyderabad.
Villagers had a hard time in removing the bodies from the ambulance.
