Police prevent child marriage at Kamanpur

Police prevented a child marriage at GD Nagar, Kannala village in Kamanpur mandal on Thursday.

Sambaiah and Subhadra tried to marry off their 15-year-old daughter, a 10th class student, with their elder daughter’s husband after the latter got bed-ridden with cancer.  The elder daughter has two kids and her parents had an opinion that they would be neglected if her husband married another woman. So they wanted to get their younger daughter married to him. However, learning about the marriage, police reached the village and stopped it.

But the parents wanted to go ahead with the wedding. Angered over police intervention, the girl’s parents attempted suicide dousing themselves in kerosene. However, cops stopped them.  Sambaiah, Subadhra and their minor daughter were shifted to Child Protection Centre.
