A youth in Kadapa district attempted suicide by consuming pesticide after allegedly being ‘kicked’ by a SI of Veeranyunipalle mandal here on Thursday.

According to villagers of Busireddypalle in the mandal, three friends Gangaprasada Reddy, Ravi Kumar and Kumar of the village were going on a bike this afternoon. Veeranayunipalle SI Roshan and his team stopped the trio while they were going towards their village.

A constable slapped Gangaprasada Reddy for triple-riding. Saying that just a slap was not enough to teach the youth not violate traffic rules, he kicked him hard with boot leg. Feeling humiliated, Gangaprasada attempted suicide by consuming pesticide at his home.

As the remaining two youth explained the treatment  meted out to them by SI Roshan, villagers rushed to the police station after admitting an unconscious Gangaprasada to the hospital. Hearing commotion outside the police station, sub-inspector Roshan fled from there.

Realising that the SI had fled, angered villages damaged the furniture there. Later, about 300 villagers staged a protest at Erragunta and Yempalle roads where traffic came to a standstill, on both sides, for hours.
