Gali brother arrested in bail bribe case

After grilling him for four days, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday arrested mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy’s brother, Gali Somasekar Reddy, for trying to bribe a judge to give bail to his sibling.

Somasekhar Redy, an MLA in Karnataka, was produced before the ACB court which remanded him to judicial custody till August 17.

Somasekhar Reddy is accused of playing an active role in the conspiracy to bribe judge Pattabhirama Rao for granting bail to Gali Janardhan Reddy on May 11. He appeared before ACB officials on Friday to answer their questions.

He was grilled for four hours again on Monday at the ACB headquarters.

Prior to the arrest of Somasekar Reddy, ACB officials had detained seven other suspects in the case.

According to ACB officials, Somasekhar Reddy admitted that he approached judge Naga Maruthi Sharma and offered him `40 crore for bail for his brother. He also admitted he met Yadagiri, a rowdy-sheeter who mediated the deal. ACB officials said they have collected strong evidence on the role played by Somasekhar Reddy in the case.

In its complaint to ACB, the Central Bureau of Investigation had alleged that Somasekhara Reddy, Dasaratha Ram Reddy, Suresh Babu, advocate T Aditya, retired judge T V Chalapathi Rao, CBI judge Pattabhirama Rao and others entered into a conspiracy to give bail to mining scam accused Janardhan Reddy in return for illegal gratification.
