Polavaram design will not change: CM

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy announced here on Friday that status quo will be maintained with regard to the design of the Polavaram project.

Speaking to media persons on the third and final day of the Indiramma Bata programme in Khammam district on Friday, he said that the design of the multi-purpose dam would not be changed, as was demanded by some people.

He also announced the setting up of a committee to review the possibility of setting up of a steel plant in Bayyaram with the help of Vizag steel plant.

“The government would also review the possibility of setting up of two power plants at Palvancha as per the agreement between Andhra pradesh and Orissa,” he said.

The chief minister also announced the sanctioning of Rs 50 crore for increasing the bed-cpacity of Khammam government hospital to 350 and pledged Rs 2 crore every year for the maintenance of the hospital.
